Bharati Bhawan’s office is an energy efficient and resource conserving building for a book publishing house. The long building walls face the unfavourable east and west directions. The building uses verandahs on these faces and skylights for day lighting.  The external walls are insulated and the roof thermal load has been reduced by an evaporative cooling system that uses white gravel as insulation and evaporation medium.  The cooling system brings treated fresh air to each user with individual controls. The air conditioning system uses the underground water tank as a thermal storage system.  The air conditioning system is run efficiently at night.  Every room in the building has independent cooling controls to make the best possible of available diversity of load.
